Corporate Tax Credit

Thank you to all those Corporate Tax Credit contributors from FY2007 and FY2008!! We had a chance to say thank you in person at our 1st Annual CTODP Corporate Tax Credit Appreciation Breakfast on April 24, 2008, at the beautiful Xavier College Prep campus. The event was aptly titled “A Celebration of Stewardship and Scholarship.”

One of our main purposes for the breakfast was to give our corporate contributors the opportunity to see some return on investment, and our featured high school students did a super job in that regard. It should be evident that corporate participation in the Corporate Tax Credit is truly giving children the opportunity for a better, brighter future of their own choosing.

We had the opportunity to share information about the upcoming FY2009 campaign, which will kick-off on July 1, 2008. The aggregate statewide cap has been increased to $14.4 million, but based on the increasing competition for limited funds, we do not expect the cap to last long. Any corporations who desire to take advantage of the tax credit this year would be wise to submit their paperwork early — prior to July 1 — in order to ensure the best chances for approval. If tax liability is unknown at this time, the best path may be to make a conservative estimate, and if there is still cap room available later in the year, to come back to CTODP and apply for additional tax liability re-direct at that time.

We expect this FY2009 season to be a short one, so please contact CTODP right away if your corporation plans to participate. Thank you!

Arizona leads the nation in school choice opportunities! And Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Schools light the way for excellence!

In 2006, the Az. State Legislature passed SB 1499 and SB 1404 which allow a corporation to make a contribution to a school tuition organization (STO) like the Catholic Tuition Organization and receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit up to the amount of its tax liability. There is no maximum amount that a corporation can contribute, but the state program was capped at $10 million for fiscal year 2006-2007. Each year, for the five years of the program, the cap will increase by 20% until fiscal year 2010-2011, when it will reach nearly $21 million! For FY2008, the cap is $14 million.

In 2007, CTODP's corporate tax credit scholarships enabled about 700 students to transfer into Catholic schools, most of whom would not otherwise have been able to attend a private school. These scholarships are targeted toward low income families, those that qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program, and the student must be switching from a public school to a private school, or entering into a Kindergarten program. This will allow for families to have a choice in the education they want for their children. We urge you to be a part of the school choice movement in Arizona by participating in this program at no cost to you.
